revans holocron

Known contents of revans holocron

I am Darth Revan, Dark Lord of the Sith.

Those who use the dark side are also bound to serve it. To understand this is to understand the underlying philosophy of the Sith.

The dark side offers power for power's sake. You must crave it. Covet it. You must seek power above all else, with no reservation or hesitation.

The Force will change you. It will transform you. Some fear this change. The teachings of the Jedi are focused on fighting and controlling this transformation. That is why those who serve the light are limited in what they accomplish.

True power can come only to those who embrace the transformation. There can be no compromise. Mercy, compassion, loyalty: all these things will prevent you from claiming what is rightfully yours. Those who follow the dark side must cast aside these conceits. Those who do not—those who try to walk the path of moderation—will fail, dragged down by their own weakness.

Those who accept the power of the dark side must also accept the challenge of holding on to it. By its very nature the dark side invites rivalry and strife. This is the greatest strength of the Sith: it culls the weak from our order. Yet this rivalry can also be our greatest weakness. The strong must be careful lest they be overwhelmed by the ambitions of those working beneath them in concert. Any master who instructs more than one apprentice in the ways of the dark side is a fool. In time, the apprentices will unite their strengths and overthrow the master. It is inevitable; axiomatic. That is why each master must have only one student.

This is also the reason there can only be one Dark Lord. The Sith must be ruled by a single leader: the very embodiment of the strength and power of the dark side. If the leader grows weak another must rise to seize the mantle. The strong rule; the weak are meant to serve. This is the way it must be.

My time here is ended. Take what I have taught you and use it well.

"I am fear. I am the queen of a blood-soaked planet and an architect of genocide. I have helped to crack the Galaxy in half with this war and conquered every enemy I have ever faced—including death. All except for you."
—Asajj Ventress to Obi-Wan Kenobi

Asajj Ventress was a Dark Jedi and one of Count Dooku's Force-sensitive operatives. As a child, she was trained as a Jedi on her homeworld of Rattatak by Jedi Knight Ky Narec, but she gave into her anger when he was slain and started down the path to the dark side.

After taking up the lightsaber of her dead master in addition to her own, she slew all of the warlords on her homeworld. Eventually, her actions came to the attention of Count Dooku, and after a test of her abilities, she became a Commander of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During the Clone Wars, Ventress had several run-ins with both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but after suffering a severe injury inflicted by Skywalker, she grew weary of fighting and disappeared into the unknown.

Asajj Ventress hailed from the barbaric planet of Rattatak. She became cold-hearted and merciless from a lifetime of enduring cruel hardships that began with the death of her parents. They had been warlords and had assembled a large army on Rattatak's southern hemisphere, but were defeated and killed by a coalition of other warlords under Osika Kirske. Ventress, alone on a harsh, unforgiving world, might have died, had it not been for the arrival of a Jedi Master named Ky Narec. Narec had become stranded upon Rattatak, and sensed Asajj's connection to the Force. Although Narec was cut off from the rest of the Jedi Order, he decided to train Ventress as his Padawan.

The two Jedi quickly became favored by the people, until Narec was killed by Osika Kirske before Asajj could become a fully-fledged Jedi. Because of this, Asajj was as skilled as any Jedi, but had not yet achieved mastery over her emotions. Asajj soon became a force of authority on her lawless homeworld, defeating most of the remaining twelve Rattataki warlords and getting her revenge on Kirske.

She tattooed a black stripe on her bald head for every warlord she slew. Ventress, now in control of the land once held by the warlords, had a castle built on Rattatak, from where she controlled her new kingdom. Asajj kept Ky Narec's lightsaber as a memento of the good times with her mentor, and developed a hatred of the Jedi, who she believed had abandoned Narec. Her bitterness and lust for revenge sent Asajj spiralling down the path of the dark side.
